On 23rd November 2010 it was announced that the next Universal Exposition/World’s Fair, held every 5 years, would be hosted by Milan, Italy.
The decision to hold the world famous exhibition was made by the International Exhibitions Bureau General Assembly in Paris on 31 March 2008 and the theme chosen for the event is to be: Feeding The Planet, Energy For Life.
The theme encompasses technology, innovation, culture, traditions and creativity as applied to food safety, quality and future security.
Milan and Italy are obviously famous for their outstanding quality of food using authentic, healthy ingredients in a passionate way utilizing the regional and national biodiversity. Although this focus on the Italian food industry (the nation’s second largest economy with an annual turnover of €100bn & 500,000 workers) will undoubtedly stimulate the regional and national culinary industry and market, EXPO 2015 also aims to stimulate awareness and action in the global arena.
Concerns about the environment, quality of food, genetically manipulated nutrients and energy crises are heard globally but perhaps the longest heard anxiety relates to the quantity of food. Attentive to the muffled warnings of our time, Milan has applied Milanese excellence to helping educate and train people in the science of health, food, the quality of life, solidarity and international cooperation with a whole host of programs and courses that seek to come to grips with the messages of EXPO 2015 and previous Expos such as:
